‘Stop that now’: AB de Villiers’ big appeal to Rajat Patidar and team after RCB seals IPL 2025 playoff spot

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have officially secured their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, marking a significant achievement under the leadership of Rajat Patidar. Their qualification was confirmed following Gujarat Titans’ (GT) dominant 10-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 18, which ensured RCB’s top-four finish regardless of remaining fixtures.

This milestone is particularly noteworthy as it underscores the effectiveness of Patidar’s captaincy, with the team delivering consistent performances across departments. The upcoming matches against SunRisers Hyderabad (May 23) and Lucknow Super Giants (May 27) are pivotal for RCB to secure a top-two finish, granting them two opportunities to reach the final.

AB de Villiers’ Stirring Message to RCB

Former RCB stalwart AB de Villiers has issued a passionate appeal to the team as they prepare for the playoffs. Emphasizing the importance of physical fitness, de Villiers urged players to avoid injuries, highlighting that staying fit is crucial for title contention.

“First of all, most importantly, just stay fit. Please, these injury scares are killing me. Really, like stop that now, all of you RCB players, get fit, stay fit, because I feel this is a great opportunity for us to go all the way this season. There’s momentum, there’s confidence, there’s a Virat Kohli, there’s an in-form team. Just stay on the park, please, people,” de Villiers said.

Beyond physical readiness, de Villiers delved into the psychological aspects of knockout cricket. Drawing from his own experiences, he stressed that minor errors, such as a no-ball or a dropped catch, can significantly impact the outcome of high-stakes matches.

“I mean, I can go back through all the knockouts and all the disappointments in my career. There were pivotal moments… a no-ball at the wrong time or a batter deciding to go from fifth gear to second gear just for a brief moment. That will be my advice: stay calm, use all the resources of the team, the momentum, the confidence you’ve built throughout this season, and take that to those big moments and go and win those big moments for the team,” he added .

A Promise to Be There

In a heartfelt gesture, de Villiers promised to be present at the stadium if RCB reaches the IPL 2025 final. Expressing his desire to lift the trophy alongside Virat Kohli, he stated

“Mark my words, if RCB makes it to the final, I will be there at the stadium with the boys. Nothing will give me more pleasure than to lift that trophy with Virat Kohli. I’ve tried that for many, many years,” de Villiers shared during an Instagram Live session.

Looking Ahead

With the playoffs approaching, RCB aims to maintain their momentum and secure a top-two finish. The team’s focus will be on staying injury-free and mentally prepared for the challenges ahead. As de Villiers’ words resonate within the camp, RCB fans worldwide hope this season culminates in the franchise’s maiden IPL title.
